Commission a Piece

Commissioning is a very unique opportunity both for the client and myself. I work closely with clients to help bring their design ideas to life, in the form of

functional and decorative works of art. Each piece is tailored to your specific needs and desires.

How Commissioning Works

1. A conversation. We begin by discussing and establishing some basic parameters of the project you have in mind and wish to have custom made. This will include some basic dimensions, style preferences (e.g. shaker, contemporary, period, mid century, etc...  ), material selection, and budget.

2. Design development. After our initial conversation, I will use the information to make up either sketches, 3d scale model and or scale drawings of the piece which will be provided to you. This will help you be able to visualize what the piece will look like. At this point a design fee will be established based on the complexity of the design.

3. Project plan. After we have settled on a compatible concept, I will outline a time line for the piece. Also, I will provide you with a pricing structure. This will consist of a firm price of the piece. If it is an entirely new concept a range or expected cost will be given to allow for flexibility as the piece evolves.

Low Feasting Table

This is a unique mid-century modern inspired low feasting table made of Ash. This table was a commissioned piece that I designed and built from start to finish. The table is built to fold in half, and the legs detach from the skirting to allow for easy storage.

Kroetsch Cabinet

This cabinet on stand was inspired by famous woodworker James Krenov, who is famously known for his cabinets on stands. This cabinet is made of Cuban Mahogany, African Mahogany crotch, and solid Wenge. The interior of the cabinet has two adjustable shelves made of curly maple. The door panels are book matched as well as the gables of the case. It features, handmade door pulls, and door catches.

Shelob Side Tables

This pair of side tables are made up of solid cherry hardwood and Wenge inlays, using a durable Urethane top coat finish. These tables were designed and hand made by Ethan Kroetsch using traditional and modern woodworking techniques, including: bridal joints, pillowed wedged through tenons, floating mortise and tenon joinery, and half lap joints.
